Numerical simulation of microflow over superhydrophobic surfaces by lattice Boltmann method

چکیده
The superhydrophobicity of a microchannel is determined by not only the wettability of channel wall but also the surface topography. Recent experiments have found that superhrydrophobic surfaces can be achieved by pattering roughness on hydrophobic surfaces. In this paper, the dynamics of two-phase flow in microchannel with different wettability and topography is studied numerically by the lattice Boltzmann method (LBM). The mechanism of drag reduction resulted from the superhydrophobicity is investigated. In particular, the effect of different rough surfaces on superhydrophobicity is analyzed. It is found that flow behaviours are strongly affected by the wall wettability and topography. The results show that the LBM has a good application prospect in the study of drag reduction in microchannels.

Numerical Simulation of Fluid Flow over a Ceramic Nanoparticle in Drug Delivery System
In this work, for better understanding of drug delivery systems, blood flow over a ceramic nanoparticle is investigated through microvessels. Drug is considered as a nanoparticle coated with the rigid ceramic. Due to the low characteristic size in the microvessel, the fluid flow is not continuum and the no-slip boundary condition cannot be applied. To solve this problem lattice Boltzmann method...

This paper deals with the hydrodynamic and thermal analysis of a new type of porous heat exchanger (PHE). This system operates based on energy conversion between gas enthalpy and thermal radiation. The proposed PHE has one high temperature (HT) and two heat recovery (HR1 and HR2) sections. In HT section, the enthalpy of flowing high temperature gas flow that is converted to thermal radiation em...
متن کاملSlip flow over structured surfaces with entrapped microbubbles.
On hydrophobic surfaces, roughness may lead to a transition to a superhydrophobic state, where gas bubbles at the surface can have a strong impact on a detected slip. We present two-phase lattice Boltzmann simulations of a Couette flow over structured surfaces with attached gas bubbles. Even though the bubbles add slippery surfaces to the channel, they can cause negative slip to appear due to t...
متن کاملFlow past superhydrophobic surfaces with cosine variation in local slip length.
Anisotropic superhydrophobic surfaces have the potential to greatly reduce drag and enhance mixing phenomena in microfluidic devices. Recent work has focused mostly on cases of superhydrophobic stripes. Here, we analyze a relevant situation of cosine variation of the local slip length. We derive approximate formulas for maximal (longitudinal) and minimal (transverse) directional effective slip ...
متن کاملDynamics of sliding drops on superhydrophobic surfaces
– We use a free energy lattice Boltzmann approach to investigate numerically the dynamics of drops moving across superhydrophobic surfaces. The surfaces comprise a regular array of posts small compared to the drop size. For drops suspended on the posts the velocity increases as the number of posts decreases. We show that this is because the velocity is primarily determined by the contact angle ...
